The ancient city of Kano State has recorded its first rain for 2024 on Friday, a development, that could be described “unusual”.
The rain which showed signs on Thursday with cloudy skies and almost unnoticeable drizzling Thursday evening in some areas ushered in the beginning of the rainy season during the wee hours of Friday.
Kano, for many years have recorded its rainy seasons usually in the middle of the year, but the global warming and climate change factors have led to unpredictable weather conditions lately in the country.
Recall, that the usual December Harmattan was deferred to sometimes in January this year which has remained some how visible until yesterday.
Residents and officials responsible are expected to prepare themselves for clearing their surroundings especially water ways due to uncertainty in weather patterns to avoid natural disasters such as flooding and other environmental issues.
In a twist of event, the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NiMET) had earlier predicted a three day hazy weather in some states with Kano inclusive.
