Abductors of Hajiya Hauwa’u Adamu, mother of the famous Hausa musician Dauda Adamu, popularly known as Rarara, have reportedly demanded a ransom of N900m for her release, Daily Trust reported.
A source close to the family in Kahutu, who craved anonymity, hinted to Daily Trust that the abductors of the elderly woman called the family and initially demanded a N1bn ransom.
The source said: “They called the family using a phone they took from a woman when they came to abduct Hajiya. They demanded N1bn, but after a brief discussion with a family member, they reduced the amount to N900m.
“At first, they demanded to seal the deal with Rarara himself because he fell sick following the abduction of his mother. They agreed to strike the deal with a member of the family. They confirmed to the family that Hajiya is in good condition and that she would be released as soon as the money is paid.
“The discussion between the bandits and the family was very brief, and since then they have not called again. But I believe the negotiation is still ongoing. So, the family is still waiting for the bandits’ call to continue with the negotiation.”
Narrating how the mother of the famous singer was abducted, the source said the operation was a well-coordinated one.
According to him, the bandits came with Hajiya’s photograph to ensure they did not pick the wrong person.
“We learned that after they gained access to her bedroom, they woke up all the women who were sleeping together with her and started comparing their faces with the photograph.
“After they finally identified her, they asked for money, and she showed them money in her bedside drawer; however, it was too little. They then told her that they would take her with them, and without any hesitation, Hajiya complied with their directives,” he said.
The source said the entire occupants of the Kahutu village were in shock following the unfortunate kidnapping of the elderly woman, whom he said was generous to many families in the village.
He said, “Hajiya is like a mother to everyone in this village. She has sponsored the marriages of many underprivileged families and orphans in Kahutu village and the surrounding areas. Nobody in this village has not enjoyed her generosity. Nobody will go to Hajiya with a problem and return without having it solved. Everybody can testify to this.”
