On Saturday, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf launched the second phase of a women’s empowerment initiative, disbursing N260 million to beneficiaries.
5,200 women from all 44 local government areas received N50,000 each as part of the monthly empowerment program aimed at boosting the micro and small-scale economy in the state.
According to a statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson, 100 women from each of the 36 local government areas outside the metropolis and 200 women from each of the eight metropolitan local government areas are selected monthly to benefit from the initiative.
Speaking to the beneficiaries at the government house before the disbursement, Governor Yusuf highlighted that the initiative aimed to promote women’s self-reliance and independence through financial support for trade and skill acquisition.
The Governor emphasized his commitment to empowering women as a strategic investment that not only increases the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) but also enhances the rural economy, stimulates business activities, and instills pride in the beneficiaries.
He expressed optimism that the financial support would enable the beneficiaries to expand their small-scale businesses, thereby promoting economic prosperity and breaking the cycle of poverty.
Gov. Yusuf reiterated that his administration would continue to value the contributions of women in the state and remain dedicated to transforming their lives in Kano State.
The statement also mentioned that the Governor urged the people of the state, especially women, to maintain cleanliness and personal hygiene during the rainy season to prevent diseases and ensure healthy living.
