Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has issued a stern warning that individuals who fell trees indiscriminately without authorization will face prosecution in Kano State.
This announcement was made during the 2024 Tree Planting Campaign held at Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu Estate in Kano.
The campaign aims to plant over 3 million trees, Governor Yusuf stated. He emphasized the critical role trees play in human lives and underscored the need to protect them.
He called on the private sector, civil society groups, and individuals to support the government’s efforts in creating a healthier and safer environment in the state.
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, appealed to residents to plant trees in their homes, recalling the excessive heat experienced in the state last year.
The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Alhaji Nasir Sule Garo, highlighted the significance of tree planting in combating climate change and ensuring ecosystem stability.
