Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has voiced support for the Dangote Refinery, urging its protection from potential threats.
In a statement on his Twitter handle, Kwankwaso noted the refinery’s scale and the effort invested in its construction.
He emphasized the refinery’s capacity to process 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) and its role in Nigeria’s energy sector and economic stability.
Kwankwaso criticized the “unnecessary fuss” around the refinery, attributing it to interests that could undermine efforts to sustain investor confidence in the Nigerian economy.
“The creation of unnecessary fuss around its integrity by some vested interests is very unfortunate,” Kwankwaso said. “It stands to undo all the years of hard work to maintain the fragile investor confidence in our economy.”
He called for support to ensure the success of the Dangote Refinery and urged the Nigerian government to show fairness and confidence in both domestic and foreign investments to protect the project.
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) alongside Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), were locked in a messy dispute, ranging from monopoly allegations to supply of crude the refinery, substandard fuel imports and ownership of blending plants in Malta.
