Kano State Governor Sympathizes with Victims, Relaxes 24-Hour Curfew

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has eased the 24-hour curfew imposed on the state following a nationwide protest that escalated into violence.

The nationwide protest turned violent in Kano on Thursday, leading to widespread looting and vandalism of public and private properties amounting to billions of naira.

The state police command on Friday confirmed the arrest of 320 suspects and the recovery of stolen items.

The state government similarly on Friday relaxed the curfew from 12:00 to 5:00 PM for Muslims to observe the Friday congregational prayer.

On Saturday night, the state commissioner for information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, announced in a broadcast that the curfew would be further relaxed from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm starting Sunday.

Dantiye said that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who gave the approval, noted that if the situation improved, the curfew would be further relaxed.

“The governor sincerely sympathizes with those who lost valuables and loved ones in the peaceful protest hijacked by hoodlums, which has left a sad situation for those families,” Dantiye said.
