Kano residents are grappling with a relentless downpour that has persisted for over 24 hours, severely disrupting business, transport, and commercial activities across parts of the state.
This continuous rainfall follows a week of heavy precipitation, further complicating residents’ daily routines.
Speaking with Kano Times, residents have expressed concern over the impact of the relentless rain.
Ibrahim Musa, a local trader, shared, “The rain has completely disrupted our daily lives. Markets are closed, and businesses are struggling. We need government support to cope with this situation.”
Adamu Usman, a resident of Danbare Quarters, emphasized the urgency of immediate assistance and better drainage solutions to mitigate damage.
“The continuous rainfall is making things very difficult. We need immediate help and effective drainage to prevent further damage.”
Bisola Aliyu, a trader in Sabon Gari Market, noted, “Our businesses are at a standstill. The rain has made it hard to transport goods and serve customers. We hope the situation improves soon.”
The Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had previously warned of a high risk of flooding affecting more than three million residents across 362 vulnerable communities in 14 local government areas of Kano State.
These at-risk areas include Rimin Gado, Tofa, Kabo, Madobi, Garun Malam, Bebeji, Rano, Dawakin Kudu, Warawa, Wudil, Sumaila, Ajingi, Kura, and Dala.
In response to the crisis, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, Commissioner for the Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, has affirmed Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf’s commitment to addressing the situation and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
