Suspected bandits attacked the residence of Sanusi Ango Gyaza in Gyaza, Kankia Local Government Area, killing him and his wife, Hadiza.
The attack occurred on Friday night, and the assailants abducted another wife of Gyaza from their home in the village.
Sanusi Ango Gyaza, who previously served as the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for Kankia LGA and was the Coordinator of Gwagware Foundation, was reportedly the primary target.
This incident is part of the ongoing banditry crisis that has affected the North-West region of Nigeria, particularly in Katsina, Zamfara, and Kaduna states, for over a decade.
The banditry, which has roots in the Boko Haram insurgency from the North-East, has led to deaths and displacement of thousands.
The bandits, often disguised as herders, have also carried out kidnappings for ransom, spreading their activities into the North-Central region.
As of now, the Katsina State Police Command has not issued any statement regarding the attack.
