The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rain across the country from Monday through Wednesday.
According to NiMet’s forecast released in Abuja, the mornings will see thunderstorms in parts of Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kaduna, Taraba, and Bauchi States. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Kebbi, Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kaduna States.
For the North Central region, intermittent rain is predicted in Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Plateau States during the morning. Thunderstorms and intermittent rain are anticipated in the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Kogi States in the afternoon and evening.
The southern region is expected to experience cloudy skies in the morning, with intermittent rains likely in Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.
On Tuesday morning, thunderstorms are predicted in parts of Taraba State, while thunderstorms are expected to spread to Bauchi, Kaduna, Kebbi, Gombe, and Yobe States in the afternoon and evening. Intermittent rain is forecasted for Plateau and Nasarawa States in the North Central region during the morning, with thunderstorms and rain expected later in the day in the FCT, Nasarawa, Benue, and Plateau States.
In the southern region, intermittent rain and some drizzle are expected in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States in the morning, with continued rain in Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.
On Wednesday, Kaduna State is expected to experience thunderstorms in the morning, with thunderstorms anticipated in Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi States later in the day.
The North Central region will see intermittent rain in Niger, Benue, Plateau, and the FCT during the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rain expected in the FCT, Niger, Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa States in the afternoon and evening.
Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas due to the risk of urban flooding from heavy rain. Strong winds may accompany the thunderstorms, and the public should follow safety advisories. Airline operators are encouraged to consult updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
