The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hon. Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola (JSC Retired), CON, who passed away on yesterday.
In a condolence message, the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, highlighted Justice Ayoola’s monumental contributions to the Nigerian judiciary and his commitment to the fight against corruption.
“It is with profound sorrow and deep respect that the ICPC announces the passing of Hon. Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola, a towering figure in the legal profession whose demise marks the end of an illustrious chapter in Nigeria’s judiciary,” Dr. Aliyu stated.
Dr. Aliyu praised Justice Ayoola’s legal career, which spanned over five decades and included significant roles both in Nigeria and abroad.
“His exceptional integrity, brilliant legal analysis, and steadfast commitment to justice distinguished him as an exemplary jurist,” Dr. Aliyu noted, adding that his tenure as ICPC Chairman from 2005 to 2010 was marked by a relentless pursuit of anti-corruption efforts.
Justice Ayoola’s contributions extended beyond Nigeria’s borders, with international engagements that included serving as Chief Justice of The Gambia and contributing to the Special Court for Sierra Leone.
“His work reflected a global dedication to upholding the rule of law and justice,” Dr. Aliyu said, emphasizing the far-reaching impact of his career.
As the ICPC mourns the loss of a venerable elder statesman, Dr. Aliyu expressed hope that Justice Ayoola’s legacy would continue to inspire ongoing efforts to combat corruption and promote justice in Nigeria.
“The ICPC and the entire nation have lost a venerable elder statesman. However, his legacy will continue to guide and inspire our ongoing efforts in the battle against corruption,” he remarked.
The Chairman extended heartfelt condolences to Justice Ayoola’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying for the Almighty to grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. “May the Almighty grant his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Adieu, My Lord,” Dr. Aliyu concluded.
