Abdulrashidu Ya’u, a tea vendor from Sararai village in Jigawar Tsada town, has been accused of killing 20-year-old Hassan Garba over allegations of theft.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 19, 2024, at approximately 5:00 AM.
Police received the report, and a patrol team responded to the scene. They arrested Ya’u and took Garba to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The medical doctor on duty certified him dead. The corpse was examined, photographed, and later released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rites,” the police said.
During questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, Ya’u reportedly admitted that Garba had repeatedly stolen his goods, including bread, milk, noodles, and petrol. He claimed that he had informed Garba’s parents about the thefts, but no action was taken.
“Upon apprehending the deceased, Ya’u decided to tie him with a rope and strike him with a stick in secret,” the police added.
Neighbors heard Garba’s cries but were unable to intervene before police arrived. Authorities assured that Ya’u will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in court.
In other police news, on August 20, 2024, Mamuda Yusuf reported the theft of his black jinchen motorcycle, which had no registration number, from Hadejia General Hospital.
The following day, police arrested Aliyu Aliyu, 24, from Gagulmari Quarters, Hadejia LGA, and recovered the stolen motorcycle. Aliyu has been charged in court after admitting to the theft.
Additionally, on August 21, 2024, police from Ringim Division spotted two young men on an unregistered red boxer motorcycle in Amaguwa village. One fled, but the other, Rabiu Abdul Abdullahi, 20, of Rage Tagwaye Fulani settlement, Garki LGA, was apprehended. He was found with four handsets and later confessed to planning a robbery near Kanya Babba Town.
Magaji Musa, 45, from Dakace village, later reported that he had been robbed by armed assailants on August 20, 2024, losing his motorcycle, two phones, and 150,000 naira.
The motorcycle and phones were recovered from Abdullahi. He has confessed to the crime, and efforts are ongoing to locate his accomplice.
