Two people lost their lives, and two others were rescued after a two-storey building collapsed in Nomansland, Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Thursday, following heavy rainfall.
Eyewitnesses told Kano Times that the collapse was caused by severe flooding due to the overflow of a nearby waterway.
A resident, Musa Abdullahi, remarked, “The rains were intense, and the water flooded everything around. The building was right next to the water, and we feared this could happen.”
Officials from the Kano State Fire Service confirmed that two survivors had been pulled from the rubble and taken to the hospital, while two victims were found dead.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure that no one is left behind in this tragedy,” said Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, spokesperson for the Fire Service.
The collapse is part of a broader problem of flooding in Kano.
Earlier, the Kano State Emergency Management Agency reported that 31 people had died and over 5,200 homes were destroyed by flooding this year.
A local community leader in the Sabon Gari area, Mr. Ibrahim Gimba, expressed frustration, saying, “We need more action from the government to address these waterways. Lives are being lost, and families are suffering.”
Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities continue to search for any additional victims.
