Sheikh Bashar Danfili, a prominent cleric in Sokoto State, has urgently appealed for financial assistance from the public after bandits abducted six of his relatives on their way to an undisclosed village in the state.
In a brief video shared on social media, Sheikh Danfili revealed that the victims include a man, his mother, stepmother, two wives, and his sister.
The cleric explained that the bandits demanded a large sum of money, which they are unable to raise, and have set a rapidly approaching deadline for payment.
Danfili stated: “The bandits have kidnapped my close relatives, though I prefer not to disclose their names. They were en route to a village when they were attacked and taken hostage. Their driver was killed immediately, and the bandits fed his flesh to their dogs.”
He continued, “The remaining captives include a husband, his mother, stepmother, two wives, and his sister. The bandits have demanded millions of Naira, an amount we cannot afford. As a scholar, I do not have the means; my role is solely to educate using the books visible behind me.”
Danfili added, “They have given us a deadline to pay the ransom or they will execute all the captives. Given recent events, such as the killing of a traditional ruler in the state by his abductors, I fear for their lives.”
The cleric concluded his appeal by urging the public to help raise the ransom to secure the release of his relatives.
