Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has announced a public lecture titled “Emirs and Politics in Northern Nigeria: Interrogating the Post-Independence Emirate Crises in Kano.”
The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Dangote Business School, BUK New Campus, at 10:00 AM.
The keynote speaker will be Prof. Tijjani Muhammad Naniya from the Department of History, BUK, who will examine the historical dynamics between traditional emirates and political systems in Northern Nigeria.
The discussant, Prof. Mansur Ibrahim Mukhtar from the Department of History and International Studies at Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano (YUMSUK), will provide additional perspectives on the topic.
Prof. Bashir Aliyu Umar from the Department of Islamic Studies and Sharia at BUK will chair the session.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas stated, “This lecture offers an opportunity to engage with critical aspects of our history, particularly how traditional institutions have navigated political changes post-independence.” He invited the public to participate in the session.
The lecture is hosted by Dr. Muhammad Wada, Head of the Department of History.
