The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Kano State Government to address its members’ demands or face potential industrial action.
The association made this decision during a State Administrative Council meeting, citing the government’s failure to resolve issues affecting its members despite multiple correspondences.
The ultimatum, signed by the association’s acting State Secretary and Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Sharada, was addressed to the Kano State Head of Civil Service.
According to the notice, nurses and midwives across the state will withdraw their services from both clinical facilities and training institutions if their demands are not met by the end of the notice period.
“The notice commences from Wednesday, 2nd October, to 16th October 2024,” the notice stated.
The demands include a request for payment of a reviewed hazard allowance, harmonisation of the Scheme of Service for nurses, and the payment of a 259% upward review of the CONHESS salary structure.
It is worth noting that medical doctors, under the National Association of Government General and Medical Dental Practitioners in Kano State, also began an indefinite strike on 1st October 2024, after the government failed to fulfil its agreement with them.
The association’s secretary, Dr. Anas Hassan, announced this during a press briefing following their meeting on Saturday last week.
