A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has affirmed that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, remains the leader of the party in the state and requires the support of all party members to succeed.
George called for reconciliation between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to restore peace in the state.
There has been political tension in Rivers State, marked by a series of unsettling events since the fallout between the two politicians.
The latest incident involved the burning of some local government secretariats on Monday, the day newly elected local government officials were to commence work.
Reacting to the situation on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, George emphasized his primary concern is to see peace restored in the oil-rich state. He reiterated that he is not siding with anyone but is advocating for justice, equity, and fairness in the state’s political landscape.
The PDP chieftain also mentioned that he and other members of the party’s Board of Trustees have made efforts to mediate between Wike and Fubara.
“Justice is, who is the leader of the party in the state? It is not the minister; it is this governor. So, we have to stand by him – the beauty of it is he stated categorically that he wasn’t leaving the party, and then they carried out this election.
“I spoke with the chairman of the board of trustees and made an attempt with a group of BOT members to visit Fubara to listen to his side, and then I spoke with Wike, requesting an appointment to discuss the matter,” George said.
