Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga, the 5th Wazirin Katsina, has urged the northern region to unite and prepare for self-determination, mirroring the actions of southern states.
Speaking at a community engagement event organized by the Coalition of Northern Group (CNG) in Katsina, Lugga stressed that northerners must brace themselves for the possibility of separation from Nigeria, in light of persistent secessionist calls from the South.
He expressed concern over the lack of unity among northerners in defending their interests, contrasting it with the resolve seen in groups like the Biafrans.
Lugga pointed out that southern states, particularly in handling security challenges, have been more proactive, citing the creation of regional security forces such as Amotekun.
In comparison, he lamented that the North remains passive despite facing more severe security threats.
He also referenced historical apprehensions by early Nigerian leaders about the amalgamation of the North and South, describing the union as fragile. Without adequate preparation, Lugga warned, the North could struggle if the South were to break away.
Jamilu Charanchi, CNG’s National Coordinator, echoed these concerns, calling for immediate, community-led actions to address Nigeria’s socioeconomic and security issues.
He criticized the nation’s leadership for focusing on elections rather than addressing the country’s pressing challenges, urging communities to take control of their future through collective effort.
