Governor Umar Namadi has approved the implementation of the new N70,000 minimum wage in Jigawa, following the recent national minimum wage recommendation by the Federal Government.
The announcement was confirmed by Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, during a press briefing on Saturday in Dutse.
According to Musa, the approval came after a review by the state’s Minimum Wage Committee, chaired by Head of Service Muhammad Dagacire.
“The governor has approved the new minimum wage, as recommended by the Federal Government,” said Musa.
The Jigawa State Government previously established the Minimum Wage Committee to assess the feasibility of the increase.
“The committee advised the state government to proceed with the new minimum wage implementation,” Musa said.
While the commissioner did not provide an exact rollout date, he noted that preparations are ongoing.
“The committee’s findings will be made public soon, and preparations are underway to implement the changes,” he stated.
Musa encouraged workers to remain committed to their duties as the new wage is implemented.
