Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and a former presidential candidate, held a meeting with Kano’s National Assembly members at his residence in Abuja yesterday, as confirmed by his media aide, Saifullahi Hassan.
The meeting occurred shortly after Kwankwaso celebrated his 67th birthday on October 21 in Kano.
According to Saifullahi Hassan’s Facebook post, “Last night, the national leader of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had a special meeting with the members of the Federal Assembly of the NNPP.”
Attendees included Kano National Assembly members from the NNPP, such as Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, who represents Kano Central.
However, some key members were notably absent, including Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, the representative of Dala, and Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, who represents the Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency.
Others are Abdullahi Sani Rogo member representing Rogo and Karaye Federal Constituency, Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents the Kano South Senatorial District, was also not present.
The meeting comes amid an internal crisis within the Kwankwasiyya movement, which includes a political dispute between Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa and Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini regarding the wearing of the red cap, a key symbol of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
Both Representatives Madaki and Rurum have not only removed their red caps but have also been absent from significant Kwankwasiyya events, including the unveiling of the new NNPP logo, constitution, and flag, which are intended to enhance the party’s electoral prospects.
All efforts by Kano Times to reach out to the three prominent NNPP politicians regarding the reasons for their absence were unsuccessful.
