Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has allocated N27,235,112,601.05, representing 4.96 percent of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, to water supply and rural development.
Presenting the budget, totaling N549.16 billion, before the Kano State Assembly, Governor Yusuf stated that this allocation aims to improve access to clean water and enhance rural infrastructure.
Titled “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” the budget addresses key challenges facing Kano State, with a focus on human capital development, infrastructure, and essential services for underserved communities. 4Governor Yusuf noted that this year’s budget reflects the people’s needs, with specific attention given to sectors essential for social and economic development.
The proposed budget includes a capital expenditure of N312.63 billion and a recurrent expenditure of N236.53 billion. The education sector received the highest allocation at N168.35 billion, accounting for 31 percent of the budget, followed by governance institutions with N98.24 billion (17.57 percent).6Healthcare services were allocated N90.6 billion, representing 16.5 percent of the budget, while infrastructure received N70.68 billion, and agriculture N21.04 billion. Other allocations include N23.46 billion for security and emergency services, and N17.34 billion for programs targeting women, youth, and people with special needs.
Governor Yusuf acknowledged the State Assembly’s role in supporting budget implementation, emphasizing the importance of legislative backing for policy reforms outlined in the budget.
“The proper implementation of the budget’s provisions will foster economic stability and reduce reliance on federal grants,” he stated.
Speaker Falgore assured that the Assembly would begin deliberations on the proposed budget and urged all ministries, departments, and agencies to prepare for budget defense sessions before the House.
