Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has addressed the issue of severe gully erosion in the Bulbula-Gayawa community of Ungoggo Local Government Area.
During a recent site visit, Governor Yusuf acknowledged the impact of the erosion on lives and property in the area, describing it as “heartbreaking.”
“For decades, this community has faced hardships. The erosion has taken lives and poses a serious threat to property and security,” the governor stated. “We aim to address this issue, working to ensure that the people of Bulbula-Gayawa can live in safety.”
Governor Yusuf noted that his administration would implement the Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project in collaboration with the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“We are taking steps, in partnership with the World Bank and the Federal Government, under the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), to support communities affected by erosion,” he said, assuring residents their concerns have been noted.
The Village Head of Zango, Malam Hamza Jibrin Nuhu, expressed gratitude for the intervention, saying, “We are grateful for this support. May Allah grant the governor success in his efforts.”
Governor Yusuf also highlighted efforts to address climate-related challenges and promote sustainable development in Kano, promising action in Bulbula-Gayawa and similar communities.
