The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has dismissed reports suggesting an attempt to recall Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Abdulmumini Kundak, the APC Vice Chairman in Bauchi South, expressed shock that constituents who had previously rallied behind Senator Buba would now entertain such a move.
“I urge those behind this recall effort to present their grievances openly instead of hiding behind what I call ‘unscrupulous politicians’ spreading misinformation,” Kundak stated.
Highlighting Senator Buba’s achievements, Kundak described him as a transformative leader whose initiatives have significantly benefited the district. He attributed the recall campaign to “envious politicians” frustrated by the senator’s success in consolidating President Tinubu’s agenda and delivering effective representation.
Kundak also refuted allegations linking the senator to banditry, urging the public to dismiss the recall effort as baseless. “The campaign lacks substance and is clearly an act of desperation by those threatened by his effective leadership,” he added.
The vice chairman commended Bauchi residents for recognizing Senator Buba’s impactful projects and supporting his leadership. He expressed gratitude for their ability to differentiate between genuine leaders and those undermining progress.
Kundak called on the public to reject the recall move and continue backing Senator Shehu Buba’s efforts to develop the region and advance President Tinubu’s agenda.
Reports suggest the recall attempt may be linked to an ongoing rift between Senator Buba and the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During a PDP local government election campaign flag-off, Governor Mohammed reportedly remarked that the PDP would recruit President Tinubu as its campaign director in 2027, claiming the president’s policies were making him unpopular.
The remarks drew sharp criticism from the APC, with Senator Buba among those voicing strong opposition.
In response, the Bauchi Emirate Council revoked Senator Buba’s traditional title of ‘Majidadin Bauchi,’ accusing him of disrespecting the governor.
The feud between Senator Buba and Governor Mohammed appears to be escalating, with fresh allegations surfacing. Reports suggest Governor Mohammed has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the senator of supporting banditry—a claim that has further strained their once cordial relationship.
