Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to alleviating poverty, promoting social justice, and safeguarding human rights.
This pledge was conveyed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, at the 3rd Annual Conference of Directors of Social Development and Welfare, held today at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the state government is implementing strategic policies to address the root causes of poverty by improving access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and social protection programs.
“The government is dedicated to advocating for the vulnerable members of society and reducing violence,” he stated, adding, “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the rights of all citizens are protected and that violence is reduced in our communities.”
He assured that the administration is prioritizing the needs of rural dwellers, youth, women, persons with disabilities, and orphans to ensure a more equitable and just society where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.
The conference was a collaborative effort between the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Disabled, and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji Rano, Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled, encouraged participants to foster collaboration, share expertise, and exchange ideas to address pressing societal challenges.
“I urge everyone here to work together, learn from each other, and find effective solutions to the challenges we face,” she said, expressing gratitude to Governor Yusuf for hosting the event and acknowledging the contributions of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (ROLAC) program.
Speaking on behalf of the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Peter Audu, a director in the ministry, reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to partner with states committed to alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.
“Our mission is to develop humanitarian policies and provide effective coordination of national and international humanitarian interventions,” Audu said.
The conference brought together directors of social development and welfare from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to discuss strategies for improving social services and supporting vulnerable populations.
