The Mata Network, a non-profit organization focused on supporting young girls and women, held its 6th annual conference under the theme, “The Power of Connection.” The event aimed to promote sustainable businesses and relationships for personal and professional growth.
Hosted in Kano, the conference attracted over a thousand women from various backgrounds. It featured training sessions, mental health awareness programs, and panel discussions led by experts.
Aisha N. Ahmad, CFA, OFR, and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of women leveraging networks for personal and financial growth.
She remarked, “Collaboration is the foundation of success. When women connect, share knowledge, and support each other, they unlock opportunities that drive personal and economic transformation.”
While speaking, Hajiya Fatima Shettima, the Zonal Head of Keystone Bank, discussed strategies for financial and business sustainability. She stated, “Sustainability in business requires careful planning, disciplined financial management, and the courage to innovate. Women must embrace resilience and adaptability to thrive in today’s dynamic economy.”
On her part, Co-Founder Yasmin Obadaki remarked, “This is just the beginning. We plan to expand our reach to many women across the country, helping them build sustainable businesses, foster stronger, healthier relationships, and develop strategies to empower the vulnerable.”
Fatima Umar Shehu, a mental health and fitness coach and cancer survivor, conducted a session on mental health and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She emphasized, “Without your health, you can’t achieve anything; stay healthy.”
Participants received free medical screenings, business grants, donations from the network’s partners, and opportunities to connect with others.
The organization reiterated its commitment to addressing gaps in education and economic opportunities for girls and women in underserved communities, highlighting the conference as part of its efforts to empower women.
