The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) announced its plan to draft a Strategic Plan for 2025-2030, urging members to actively contribute to its development.
This was stated in a communiqué issued after the 3rd NMA National Health Summit and the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held from December 2nd to 6th in Abuja.
The communiqué, signed by the NMA President, Professor Bala Audu, and Secretary General, Dr. Benjamin Egbo, highlighted the need for collaboration with medical doctors in government and positions of authority to address challenges in the healthcare system.
“The NEC suggested that Health workers should be trained on the importance of pharmacovigilance and the use of e-reporting through the Med Safety App.
“The NHS advised that the Association should work closely with state branches to develop mechanisms that enhance doctors’ welfare, improved security, and comprehensive health insurance coverage for all Doctors,” the communiqué stated.
The Summit proposed partnerships with Nigerian doctors in the diaspora and the Nigeria Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The Opening Ceremony, chaired by Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), was attended by key officials, including the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, and other stakeholders.
Prof. Pate delivered the keynote address, focusing on achieving Universal Health Coverage through strategic health sector engagement and strengthening primary healthcare services. He emphasized addressing gaps in the health system as part of the Renewed Hope agenda.
NMA President Prof. Bala Audu thanked members for their participation in the Summit and reaffirmed his commitment to improving the health system and welfare of Nigerian doctors.
