Kano Police Bust Multi-Billion Counterfeit Ring, 62 Others Arrested

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects in possession of counterfeit currencies amounting to N129.5 billion.

The Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba Dogo, disclosed this during a briefing at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano, where the suspects were paraded alongside others arrested for various crimes.

Represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, Dogo revealed that the counterfeit currencies were in different denominations, including $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000.

“We arrested three suspects and recovered counterfeit currencies equivalent to a total sum of N129.5 billion. They comprised $3,366,000; CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000,” he stated.

Dogo emphasized the command’s commitment to tackling such illegal activities, adding, “We had earlier arrested some suspects in connection with similar activities of counterfeit currencies. We will not condone this.”

The commissioner also noted that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals linked to the crime.

Additionally, the command announced the arrest of 62 suspects for major crimes over a two-week period, with several recoveries made during the operations.
