An early morning fire on Wednesday destroyed goods worth millions of naira at the popular Alaba Rago market in the Ojo area of Lagos State.
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, confirmed that the fire started at midnight. “The immediate or remote cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of this report,” he stated.
Responding to distress calls, LASEMA activated its emergency response plans, deploying its Emergency Response Team from Igando to the scene.
According to Dr. Oke-Osayintolu, “Upon arrival of the Dolphin Response Team, it was discovered that some shanty shops were engulfed in fire.”
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and other emergency responders worked tirelessly to extinguish the blaze.
Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, assured the public that the situation had been brought under control, preventing the fire from spreading to other properties.
Efforts to determine the full extent of damage and the cause of the fire are ongoing.
