A midnight fire incident claimed the lives of 67-year-old Muhammed Uba and his wife, 52-year-old Fatima Uba, at their residence in Rangaza Layin AU, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.
The statement reported that the fire occurred around midnight on Thursday, December 12. “We received a distress call at about 01:45 a.m. from one of our staff, Ahmad Abubakar, and immediately dispatched our rescue team to the scene at about 01:51 a.m.,” Hassan Muhammad stated.
Muhammad described the property as a bungalow measuring about 50 by 25 feet, with two rooms completely engulfed in flames.
“The victims were trapped by the smoke from the fire but were rescued unconscious with burns on some parts of their bodies,” he said. They later succumbed to their injuries.
The corpses were handed over to the Ward Head of Rangaza, Muhammad Rayyanu, for burial.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” the statement added.
The Fire Service spokesman urged the public to follow safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.
