The President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has donated $100,000 to the Islamic University in Uganda.
He made the announcement as a special guest of honour during the university’s 33rd convocation ceremony, held at its main campus in Mbale.
The university also presented an award of excellence to Professor Gwarzo in recognition of his selfless contributions to the institution’s development.
While presenting the award, the Council Chairman of the University, H.E. Prof. Dr. Muhammad A.S.E.A Altabtabaei from the State of Kuwait, commended Gwarzo for his dedication to the university.
“I was informed by the university management about your contributions. On behalf of the council, I wish to extend our deepest appreciation to you,” Altabtabaei said.
In his acceptance speech, the MAAUN founder expressed gratitude to the university for the recognition and announced a donation of $100,000 to support its growth.
On his part, the Rector of the University in Kampala, Prof. Dr. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, praised Gwarzo for his generosity and prayed for God to bless him abundantly.
He described Gwarzo as a philanthropist known for fulfilling his promises.
“This donation is significant. On behalf of the students and staff of the Islamic University in Uganda, we sincerely express our appreciation and pray to Allah SWT to bless your wealth,” Gyagenda said.
Professor Gwarzo, who is the founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, Nigeria, Franco-British International University Kaduna, and Canadian University of Nigeria Abuja, led a 17-man delegation from Nigeria to attend the convocation.
Gwarzo served as a special guest of honour at the Islamic University, which was established in 1988 and is the second university in Uganda.
