Radda: Local Government Autonomy Key to Strengthening Democracy

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, reaffirmed his commitment to local government autonomy, emphasizing his administration’s focus on strengthening local government structures.

The Governor made this statement during a visit by the National Executive Council of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), led by its newly elected National President, Engr. Bello Lawal Yandaki.

In his address, Governor Radda expressed gratitude for the election of Engr. Yandaki as ALGON President in October 2024, calling the achievement a collective recognition for Katsina State, the Northwest, and Nigeria.

He said, “This achievement is not just an individual honor but a collective recognition for Katsina State, the Northwest, and Nigeria at large.”

Governor Radda highlighted the importance of local government autonomy and pledged continued support for local governments in the state. He outlined his administration’s plan to provide local governments with financial independence while ensuring proper oversight to ensure the proper use of funds.

“I remain committed to empowering our local government structures. My doors are always open for collaboration,” he assured the ALGON executives.

Engr. Yandaki, who is also the Chairman of Kaita Local Government Council, referred to the visit as a homecoming and tradition for the association. He commended Governor Radda for his accomplishments in office and thanked him for his support during his national presidential election.

He also requested the Governor to serve as a point of contact for inter-governmental partnerships to enhance engagement across the country’s 774 local governments.
