Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has submitted six names to the Kano State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners.
The Speaker of the House, Ismail Jibrin Falgore, announced this on Monday during a plenary session, where he read the governor’s letter listing the nominees.
The nominees are Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, Shehu Wada Sagagi, Dr. Dahiru Mohammed Hashim, Dr. Isma’il Dan Maraya, Gaddafi Sani Shehu, and Abdulkadir Abdulsalam. They are scheduled to appear before the assembly on Tuesday for screening.
This follows a recent cabinet reshuffle by Governor Yusuf, during which five commissioners were dismissed. The removed officials include Ibrahim Jibril Fagge (Finance), Ladidi Ibrahim Garko (Culture and Tourism), Baba Halilu Dantiye (Information and Internal Affairs), Shehu Aliyu Yammedi (Special Duties), and Abbas Sani Abbas (Rural and Community Development).
Political analysts have highlighted that all six new nominees are from the Kano Central Senatorial District, sparking criticism over the exclusion of Kano South in the appointments.
Governor Yusuf’s decision not to replace Ladidi Garko and Shehu Aliyu Yammedi with nominees from their respective zones has raised concerns about geographical balance in the executive council.
Comrade Sani Shehu Kachako of the Kano South Youth Alliance criticized the omission of his senatorial district, citing the zone’s contributions to the NNPP’s success in the 2023 general elections.
“Kano South gave the NNPP tens of thousands of votes, yet the governor has chosen to overlook the zone entirely in his appointments. This is a betrayal of trust and a disregard for the people’s sacrifices,” Kachako said.
He added, “How can a government that prides itself on equity and fairness marginalize a whole senatorial district in its decision-making process? This is unacceptable.”
Kachako called on the governor to address the issue immediately to restore trust and ensure fairness in governance.
