Jigawa State Government has uncovered 6,348 ghost workers through its staff verification exercise, saving the state significant funds, according to Sagir Musa, the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture.
In a statement issued Tuesday in Dutse, Musa disclosed that the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise identified these ghost workers, resulting in monthly savings of over N314 million.
“The exercise resulted in the detection of 6,348 ghost workers and significantly saved costs with an average of N314,657,342.06 per month and N3,775,888,809.72 per annum,” he said.
He further explained that the State Executive Council (SEC) had reviewed the audit report and approved the establishment of a Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service. “This will fast-track the completion of the data capture and validation exercise, as part of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS),” he added.
The commissioner also announced the council’s approval for road rehabilitation projects in flood-affected areas. These include the Andaza-Gadewa-Aujara, Unguwar Mani-Korayel-Rorau, and Tsamiya-Yalwan Damai-Litinin Tudu roads in Roni, Gwiwa, and Birnin Kudu Local Government Areas.
Additionally, the council allocated N254.8 million for completing the integration of community-based groups into the state’s Social Register Data Management Information System. “This is in line with the Umar Namadi administration’s efforts to expand social security coverage to communities left out of the social register,” Musa stated.
He also revealed the council’s endorsement of the recommendations from the Committee for the Retrieval of Farmlands Allocation across the state. “This initiative aims to promote peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders in the state,” he said.
