The Kano State Police Command has apprehended 24 suspected thugs and recovered dangerous weapons during clearance operations carried out between December 13th and 16th, 2024.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the operations were aimed at addressing the recent violence and rival fights among youths in Kofar Mata, Yakasai, Zango, Zage, and surrounding areas.
The operations followed a swift response from the Police, led by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the situation from December 10th to 12th, 2024.
The Police were deployed in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, focusing on community-centered policing and proactive security measures.
CP Salman Dogo Garba said, “The clearance operations are part of ongoing efforts to restore peace to Kano and remove criminals threatening the security of the people.”
In addition to the operations, the Police Command engaged with various security stakeholders, including Ward Heads, local vigilante groups, elders, and businessmen.
Public enlightenment campaigns through radio, television, and social media were also conducted to raise awareness and promote community cooperation in maintaining security.
The arrested suspects will face legal action following the completion of investigations.
