Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has accused elements within opposition parties of instigating unrest and political instability in the state, vowing to take measures to address the resurgence of political thuggery.
Speaking at the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Governor Yusuf condemned the recent violent clashes between suspected political thugs, which led to a crisis.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Governor alleged that intelligence reports from the state security council meeting held on Tuesday exposed the involvement of opposition actors in sponsoring unrest.
“The opposition elements are deliberately provoking crises,” Governor Yusuf stated.
The Governor emphasized his administration’s resolve to maintain peace and stability, warning that attempts to disrupt public order would be addressed. He also mentioned the government’s intention to work with security agencies to tackle criminal activities.
As part of efforts to curb insecurity, Governor Yusuf announced plans to reopen the state-owned Reformatory Centre in Kiru Local Government Area to rehabilitate individuals involved in drug abuse, a factor linked to thuggery and violence.
