In response to recent developments surrounding the establishment and division of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Northern groups have been urged to take immediate action to safeguard the region’s interests.
The controversial decision to split the institution into six parts has raised concerns about its potential long-term impact on the North.
Tijjani Sarki, a concerned citizen from Zawaciki, Kumbotso, Kano State, emphasized the importance of verifying the information behind the decision and understanding the rationale behind the division.
“We must carefully scrutinize the act that established the institute and assess whether splitting it into six parts aligns with the North’s best interests,” he stated.
To ensure that the region’s concerns are addressed, Northern groups are being urged to take a proactive approach.
Sarki suggested drafting a formal petition to the National Assembly, requesting a comprehensive review of the decision. “A formal appeal to the National Assembly will raise our concerns and call for a fair review of the process. This is crucial in safeguarding the future of the North,” he added.
In addition to engaging with lawmakers, Sarki called for a letter of protest to be submitted directly to the President. “The President has a duty to ensure that national policies benefit all regions equitably. We must communicate our dissatisfaction and demand transparency regarding the decision,” Sarki explained.
Sarki also highlighted the importance of Northern Governors in addressing the situation. He encouraged them to work together to ensure that the region continues to benefit from key national institutions.
“Northern Governors must be united in their efforts to prevent similar actions in the future, ensuring that the North does not lose out on critical resources like NCAT,” he emphasized.
Looking ahead, Sarki stressed the need for vigilance and strategic planning. “The North must prepare itself for future challenges and demand equitable treatment in matters of national importance. Now more than ever, we must act as one to ensure the North’s interests are protected,” he concluded.
For the North to regain its position and influence decisions that shape the nation, Sarki believes unity and decisive action are key. “This moment offers a new opportunity. If the North acts with determination and unity, it can secure a future that benefits all of its people,” he said.
