Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has once again called for self-determination for the Yoruba people, attributing the rising demand for a Yoruba Nation to the worsening state of Nigeria’s governance and infrastructure.
In an interview seen by SaharaReporters, Igboho expressed his frustration with the Nigerian government’s inability to provide basic amenities, citing electricity, water, and security as pressing concerns.
“If our country is good, some of us will not be fighting for self-determination and saying we want to break out. Self-determination means a lot because there is no light, no water, no security—nothing tangible in our country to be proud of,” Igboho stated, emphasizing the dire state of affairs.
He also highlighted the stark irony of Nigeria’s ongoing energy crisis despite its vast natural resources. “If we have light for two hours, we will be thanking God, while Nigeria is selling light to other countries, and those countries are celebrating ten years of uninterrupted power. It doesn’t make sense at all,” Igboho remarked.
Igboho further described his vision of an ideal country, where citizens are provided with basic rights and amenities, such as consistent electricity and clean water. He stressed the importance of maintaining and celebrating indigenous cultures and languages.
“A country is a place where citizens know their rights, coupled with adequate social amenities such as light, water, and many more. A country is also a place where citizens speak their indigenous languages. English is not our language; we borrowed it. I am a Yoruba man. Yoruba is my language, my culture, and everything,” he said.
