The Nigerian Army has announced a reshuffle among its senior officers, involving key appointments and redeployments aimed at enhancing the Army’s capacity to address security challenges and ensure effective leadership.
The move, approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, affects officers in command, staff, and instructional roles across the country.
According to a statement by Army spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the restructuring involves Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters, General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, Brigade Commanders, and leaders of training institutions.
The redeployment includes Maj. Gen. L.A. Fejokwu as Chief of Administration (Army), Maj. Gen. G.U. Chibuisi as Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, and Maj. Gen. A.S. Ndalolo as Chief of Training (Army).
Other appointments include Maj. Gen. O.S. Abai as Chief of Transformation and Innovation and Maj. Gen. J.H. Abdussalam as Chief of Special Services and Programmes.
Several General Officers Commanding (GOCs) also received new assignments. Maj. Gen. O.T. Olatoye was posted to Headquarters 82 Division/Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA as Commander, while Maj. Gen. E.F. Oyinlola took over as GOC 3 Division/Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN.
Confirmed substantive appointments include Maj. Gen. A.G.L. Haruna as GOC 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 JTF North East Operation HADIN KAI and Maj. Gen. I.A. Ajose as GOC 8 Division/Commander Sector 2 JTF North West Operation FANSAN YANMA.
The reshuffle extended to Corps Commanders and Commandants, including Maj. Gen. G.O. Adeshina as Director General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre and Maj. Gen. M.C. Kangye moving to Defence Headquarters as Director of Media Operations. Maj. Gen. G.M. Mutkut assumed the role of Force Commander for the Multi-National Joint Task Force in N’Djamena.
Commandants of training institutions were also changed, with Maj. Gen. J.O. Sokoya posted to the Nigerian Army Training Centre and Maj. Gen. U.M. Alkali to the Army War College Nigeria.
The COAS directed all appointees to prioritize troop welfare and intensify efforts against terrorism, insurgency, and other security threats.
