A Step Toward Growth: Tinubu Commends Governors on Tax Bills

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) for endorsing the four Tax Reform Bills under consideration by the National Assembly.

“The governors have shown exemplary commitment to nation-building by setting aside partisan interests to prioritize the country’s development,” President Tinubu stated. “This collaboration is essential for updating our outdated tax laws and making our economy more competitive.”

The President praised the NGF Chairman, Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, for mobilizing support for the tax bills. He also recognized the roles of the Progressive Governors Forum, the Northern Governors Forum, and other groups in resolving disputes over the reforms.

“The productive consultation between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy is a shining example of how constructive dialogue can resolve differences,” the statement noted.

President Tinubu urged stakeholders with suggestions to engage with the legislative process at the National Assembly, emphasizing the importance of the reforms in attracting investments and boosting Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.

“The dialogue underscores the power of partnership between the Federal and State governments. I remain committed to working with the governors to promote economic growth, national harmony, peace, and stability,” he said.

He appealed to the National Assembly to expedite the legislative process for the Tax Reform Bills, stating, “The time for action is now. Let us collectively ensure that Nigeria’s economy is positioned for sustainable growth.”
