Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of hypocrisy and double loyalty, undermining the integrity of Nigerian politics.
Governor Mohammed criticized Wike’s recent media remarks, particularly regarding opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills. He described Wike’s actions as “erratic and opportunistic,” revealing a pattern of betrayal and self-serving theatrics.
“Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP, yet he now gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him,” Mohammed stated. “It is disheartening that a man who owes so much to a party that stood by him in his political journey has chosen to be a willing tool in its denigration.”
Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors Forum, accused Wike of abandoning principles for personal ambition, noting Wike’s public shift in allegiance to the APC while still claiming PDP membership.
“While Wike accuses others of insincerity, he has seamlessly transitioned from being a self-proclaimed PDP stalwart to an ardent supporter of the APC government,” Mohammed said. “This chameleonic behavior raises serious questions about Wike’s credibility and moral compass.”
He contrasted Wike’s divisive conduct with his own focus on governance that prioritizes public interest and dialogue.
“Unlike Wike, who thrives on drama and divisiveness, I have always understood that politics is not a game of self-serving theatrics but a platform to serve the public good,” Mohammed added.
The statement warned that Wike’s actions set a dangerous precedent, undermining democratic principles and eroding public trust.
“Chief Wike’s dual loyalty—if it can even be called that—is a dangerous precedent in Nigerian politics. His shameless oscillation between PDP and APC undermines the moral fabric of democracy,” the statement read. “Politics must be guided by principles, not personal whims.”
Mohammed emphasized the need for accountability and integrity in leadership, contrasting Wike’s “hollow rhetoric” with his own principled stand against the Tax Reform Bills, which he believes require further adjustments to promote inclusive governance.
“Nigerians are not deceived by Wike’s antics,” Mohammed concluded. “They see a man willing to undermine his party for personal gain, a man whose loyalty shifts as quickly as his alliances.”
