The management of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina has announced a one-week mid-semester break, effective from February 24.
The decision follows a protest by students on Sunday after they alleged that a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) shot and killed one of their colleagues.
The demonstration continued into Monday morning, with students expressing outrage over the incident. Reports indicate that JTF operatives shot the student on Sunday, accusing him of being an informant.
In response, FUDMA’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, announced the Senate’s decision to shut down the university. In a statement issued on Monday in Katsina, he advised all students to vacate the campus before 6:00 p.m. on February 24.
“The management wishes the students a happy and peaceful mid-semester break,” he said.
