The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Kano Chapter has suspended four National Assembly members over alleged anti-party activities.
The affected lawmakers are Senator Kawu Sumaila (Kano South), Ali Madakin Gini (Dala Federal Constituency), Sani Abdullahi Rogo (Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency), and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Rogo/Karaye Federal Constituency).
Announcing the suspension, the party’s State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, stated that the lawmakers, who were elected under the NNPP platform, had been acting contrary to the party’s interests and values.
“They were given complementary tickets during the party elections but started working against the party’s interests after being elected,” Dungurawa said.
He cited a recent instance where Senator Kawu commissioned projects at his university in Sumaila without involving party members, describing it as a clear case of anti-party activity.
Dungurawa further revealed that a committee would be set up to investigate the matter and take necessary action. However, he noted that the party remains open to reconciliation.
“If they repent and seek forgiveness, the party will consider their plea,” he added.
This suspension follows a similar action in October last year when the NNPP in Kano suspended two top officials—State Secretary to the Government (SSG) Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi and Commissioner for Transport Muhammad Diggol—over alleged acts of insubordination and disrespect toward the party’s leadership.
