The Kano State Government has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the removal of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero from the Nasarawa Palace, warning that his continued presence is fueling unrest in the state.
Speaking at the Kano Government House during the distribution of relief materials provided by Tarauni Federal Constituency Representative, Hon. Kabiru Dahiru Sule, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo reiterated the administration’s position, urging the president to intervene.
“We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the emir he enthroned and kept in a graveyard,” Gwarzo said.
He condemned the presence of security forces around the palace and in the city, accusing them of using teargas and even live ammunition against protesters.
“The people of Kano, especially the youth, are tired of this nonsense. It is shocking that in a democracy, security forces are being used to suppress peaceful protests,” he added.
Gwarzo insisted that only Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has the constitutional authority to appoint an emir in Kano.
“The president should remove the emir he appointed and take him to his own state. Kano already has an emir, and that is Muhammadu Sanusi II. No one else has the power to impose an emir on Kano,” he said.
He accused certain individuals of using Emir Bayero’s presence at the Nasarawa Palace to create political instability, making it difficult for the state government to function.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the law, emphasizing that the same legal process that led to the removal of the former emir has now reinstated Sanusi II.
