The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 42-year-old Angolan businessman, Mbala Dajou Abuba, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano for attempting to smuggle cocaine to Istanbul, Turkey.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Abuba, from Zaire province in Angola, was intercepted on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, before boarding Egypt Air flight MS 880. A body scan confirmed he had ingested the drugs.
Under observation, Abuba excreted 120 pellets of cocaine, weighing 1.829 kilograms. He admitted abandoning his delivery business in Angola to engage in drug trafficking.
At Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested auto spare parts dealer Okeke Ebuka Igwe on Monday, February 24, for attempting to conceal 1.10kg of cocaine inside vehicle propellers bound for Angola.
In Osun State, NDLEA operatives patrolling the Ibadan-Gbongan Expressway on Thursday, February 27, intercepted 1.05kg of skunk hidden in a detergent and biscuit carton, leading to the arrest of 45-year-old Sunday Ogbu.
In Zamfara, Ayuba Mustapha, 30, was arrested on Sunday, February 23, with 24,700 tramadol pills. In Borno, NDLEA operatives arrested Mustapha Shettima, 50, on Wednesday, February 26, along Bama Road in Maiduguri with 31kg of skunk, 1,000 tramadol pills, and N720,000.
In Kano, Adamu Idris, 40, was arrested along Zaria Road with 140 blocks of cannabis weighing 73.5kg.
