Despite the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which limits presidents to two terms in office, former President Donald Trump has suggested that a third term may still be possible.Â
In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump revealed that he believed there were ways to pursue a third presidential run, asserting that he was not joking about the prospect.
“A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump said. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go. It’s very early in the administration.”
While focusing on the present, Trump indicated that he was not currently thinking about a third term. “I’m focused on the current,” he said, offering some of his most detailed comments to date about a potential third term.
When asked directly if he desired another term, Trump responded, “I like working,” but stressed that “it is far too early to think about it.”
