The Chairman of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, has dismissed claims that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling the rumour false.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Dungurawa was responding to a statement by the APC State Chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, who said Kwankwaso had finalized plans to join the APC. Dungurawa rejected the claim, saying the APC has lost direction.
“It’s laughable and illogical to suggest that a politician like Kwankwaso, who represents hope for many Nigerians, would join a sinking ship,” he said. “The people are looking up to him as a credible alternative in 2027, not as someone who will align with those responsible for the current hardship.”
Dungurawa said that the economic situation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has left many Nigerians frustrated. “Tinubu’s policies have only brought suffering. The people are tired, and the APC has clearly failed them,” he added.
He referred to the record of Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, saying the governor’s actions have led people to believe that Kwankwaso could lead effectively at the national level.
Dungurawa stated there are no plans for defection. “Kwankwaso doesn’t need to ask anyone before making a decision, but let me be clear—there is no plan to join the APC. We have no business with them,” he said.
He concluded that the APC’s claims are without basis. “Nigerians are watching. The APC is losing ground every day, and no amount of propaganda will save them.”
