The Kabilun Africa Think Tank (KATT), hosted by Empowering Women for Excellence Initiative (EWEI), on Monday announced the establishment of Women in International Security (WIIS) in Nigeria, an affiliate of WIIS Global.

According to Safiya Ibn Garba DTRF, KATT Convener and Lead WIIS Nigeria, “We are very pleased to have established this international affiliate of WIIS. KATT foresees rich collaboration on initiatives of global significance.”

WIIS Nigeria plans to promote women’s participation in peace and security decision-making, support research and policy engagement, and build a network of women in the sector.

WIIS Global stated, “We are delighted to officially welcome WIIS Nigeria to our global network. We are eager to amplify and learn from the new perspectives, energy, and insight that WIIS Nigeria members bring to the table.”

WIIS Global has a network of over 15,000 members in nearly 50 countries.

Safiyya is also the Founder and Programmes Director of EWEI, which was established in 2008.

A statement by Uche Brown Egbe, Communications Manager at EWEI, added that the organisation “work towards empowering women through Capacity Building, Information Dissemination, Advocacy and Cross-Cutting Community Service Projects,” and claimed to have reached over 4.5 million people by the end of 2023.

KATT, founded in 2022, focuses on leadership development and reducing reliance on external resources. It works with Africans and people of African descent to develop policy ideas.

KATT and EWEI plan to collaborate on WIIS Nigeria activities.
