The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and the Chairman of Rano Local Government Area, Mohammed Naziru Ya’u, visited the Rano Divisional Police Headquarters following the death of a young man in police custody and an attack on the station.
The visit came after the death of Abdullahi Musa, who was being held at the station.
Abdullahi, arrested on Sunday for a traffic-related offence, reportedly died during police interrogation. His death triggered anger among residents, especially the youth.
According to Kano Times, a protest demanding justice for Abdullahi turned violent when demonstrators set the Rano Divisional Police Headquarters on fire.
Eyewitnesses told CITAD Radio that violence began when security personnel allegedly opened fire on protesters, injuring two young men—Kabiru Muhammad and Muhammad Ibrahim—who are being treated at Rano General Hospital.
“We were protesting peacefully. We only wanted answers for what happened to Abdullahi Musa. But they started shooting at us,” one of the protesters told *CITAD Radio* under anonymity.
A local resident, Malam Yusuf Auwalu, said: “It’s a sad day for our community. Abdullahi Musa was not a criminal. He was arrested, and now he is dead. We want justice.”
The spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said investigations have begun. “Incidents in Rano — thorough investigation will be conducted by the Grace of God,” he said.
