Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has presented the staff of office to Ishaku Tagwai Sambo, officially crowning him as the 15th Chief of Moro’a in Southern Kaduna.
The ceremony took place on Saturday in Manchok, the headquarters of the Moro’a Chiefdom. Sambo’s appointment followed the death of his father, Chief Tagwai Sambo, who led the chiefdom for nearly 58 years.
Before his appointment in December 2024, the new chief held the traditional title of Madakin Moro’a.
Governor Sani, during the presentation, said the new chief is stepping into a significant role. “Your appointment is more than a title – it is a trust, a testament, and a task. It is a trust handed to you by your people and sanctioned by the laws of Kaduna State,” he said.
The governor described the late Chief Tagwai Sambo as “a colossus” and urged his successor to emulate his legacy. “You are succeeding a colossus, the late Chief Tagwai Sambo, your father, who reigned for 58 remarkable years, a leader renowned for peace, patience and purpose,” he added.
He encouraged the people of Moro’a to work with their new traditional leader. “Let peace be your pledge. Let progress be your pursuit. Let unity be your umbrella,” Sani said.
The governor also addressed the role of traditional rulers in local governance and security. “Our royal fathers are partners in policy, protectors of peace and promoters of progress. They are our first line of intelligence in tackling insecurity, our moral compass in promoting discipline, and our grassroots mobilisers for health, education and development,” he stated.
Sani said the Kaduna State government would continue to work with traditional leaders to improve security and promote development. He credited some of the recent progress in security across the state to collaboration between the government, security forces, and traditional institutions.
Among those in attendance were Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe, Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Henry Magaji, and Mathew Kuzialo, the lawmaker representing Kaura Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
