The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has commissioned a Vision Centre at its National Headquarters Annex in Abuja.
The facility, launched on Thursday, was established through a partnership between the NDLEA, the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation. It will provide eye care services to both NDLEA personnel and the general public.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), acknowledged the contributions of the NOA and its international partners.
“We are here with every sense of fulfillment and happiness to commission this Vision Centre,” Marwa stated. “We appreciate you for accepting to serve in this capacity, even in uncharted territory. This Centre is a worthy addition to our various initiatives to promote and cater to the well-being of our workforce.”
Marwa also shared his personal experience with vision care and urged NDLEA officers to prioritize their eye health.
The President of the Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr. Chimeziri Anderson, said, “This Vision Centre is one of only a few we have established within government institutions. It stands out as a model for sustainable eye care delivery.”
“With support from our partners in France and Dubai, we are bringing world-class equipment and services here, ensuring access to premium eye care and quality eyeglasses for NDLEA staff and their families.”
Dr. Audu Okpe, Director of Medical Services at the NDLEA, also spoke on the initiative. “The establishment of the NDLEA-NOA Vision Centre marks another milestone in the agency’s growing portfolio of staff welfare initiatives under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa,” he said.
“It also underscores a broader commitment to fostering public health partnerships between security institutions and professional medical bodies in Nigeria.”
