Five people lost their lives and at least 15 others sustained injuries after an early morning explosion rocked a mechanic workshop area in Kano on Saturday.
The blast is suspected to have been triggered by a military mortar bomb. Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who visited the site, said the explosive may have been part of a shipment traced to Yobe State.
Emergency workers moved the injured to nearby hospitals. As of the time of reporting, authorities have not confirmed who was responsible for moving or owning the device.
Bakori called on residents to stay calm while investigations continue into the cause and source of the explosion.
